New Birth Announcement

New Burp Cloths

So I have been working on some burp cloths for a friend of mine.  I had a lot of boys and neutral ones to make.  It's had to find neutral fabric or boy fabric.  My sister in law found this shop in Lafayette, LA that has awesome fabric.  I got online and ordered some and absolutely love it!  It's so cute.

New Project-Hand Towels and Potholders

Well I tried a new sewing project today!  My lovely fiance asked me yesterday if I could "make" something for him for Administrative Assistants Day.  I thought what am I going to make?  I suggested some monogrammed hand towels.  I figured that would be a nice gift.  Then it hit me...what about some kitchen dishtowels and a potholder to match?

So I set off for my favorite store-Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart!  I wanted to find some fabric that was cool and funky but also had a kitchen look to it.  I found 3 different prints that had pairs with them.  I thought perfect!  I can do 2 dishtowels out of each of the prints and them the potholder with both.  With my fabric purchases done, I was off to Wal-Mart.  I found some waffle weave dish towels that were white and would work great.

Today I started making the dishtowels-simple enough.  I did them just like I do burp cloths.  That part was easy!  The hard part came with the potholders.  I really thought about giving up, but I am not a quitter!  I keep trying until I figure it out.  After 2 broken needles and many hours,  I got them done! I told Collin to let them know-this was my first adventure into potholders! I was kind of concerned that the towels would end up looking like burp cloths, but I don't think they do.

With all the dishtowels made and the pot holders done, I now had to monogram them!  Going back and forth between watching "The Voice" on TV and the office/sewing room it took me forever!  Long after Collin went to bed-I finished.  I am happy with the final project!

Keep in mind...Collin wanted me to stay under $10.00 apiece and I had to make something for 3 ladies!  I don't know what my final total was, but it was close to $10.00 if not under.  That doesn't include my labor...which I should charge him double for the potholders!

I am not sure they will like them, but if someone gave me these as a gift-I would love them!  Since they turned out so cute...I think I might make me some for my kitchen!  You can never have too many dishtowels and what a great way to use scrap fabric!

How I spent my afternoon.

Last week my mom and Aly (my niece) were here and mom and I had a crash course in sewing.  She helped me make a dress for Aly.  Today...I made one on my own!  I was so excited because I didn't even have to call my mom with any questions!

I found this fabric and thought it was so cute! It is so much cuter in person.  In the picture it looks black but it is actually brown. This one is for my soon to be niece.  I thought I would do a shorter version of the pillowcase dress with some bloomers.  Well the dress was easy or not as hard as I thought it would be BUT the bloomers were another story!  I found a tutorial for them online with a pattern and thought they would be cute with the dress.  Well...the elastic got me!  As the tutorial commented not to worry about all the imperfections because the legs would be gathered with elastic...I had to just go with that.  I would say they are not the best, but they are together! :)....I will continue to practice.

When I sent the dress to my mom-my dad commented that she had created a monster.  I can't believe I like to sew.  I think the part I enjoy is putting the fabrics together.

What will I make next???? Stay tuned.

First Dress to Sew!

So my mom and niece have been here in Nac with me all week.  It's been fun!  I have been wanting my mom to come spend some time with me so she could teach me to sew!  We finally got to spend an afternoon sewing.  Challenging at times with a 3 1/2 year old wanting to help.  So a friend of mine sent me a Facebook message today-telling me she wanted me to learn how to make pillowcase dresses.  I have been wanting to-so I decided that this would be the sewing lesson mom could give me.

After a trip to Chick-fila, we were off to Hobby Lobby!  Oh how I hated those stores when I was little.  Although back then it was Hancocks, but this town doesn't have one of those!  I decided that I would make a dress for Aly-which she is picky about her clothes so she might not wear it!  We picked out the pattern and then decided on the fabric.  Once at home we laid out the cutting board and mom walked me through the steps of the pattern process!  I am a visual hands on verbal learner so reading a pattern is not easy for me!  We got it cut out and off to the sewing machine I went.  It was going good until mom told me I was sewing at Grandma speed!  You have to remember I am new to this and I am picky...it has to be just right.

It was easier than I thought and the challenge really was Alyssa Claire wanting to help!  I think she cleaned me out of my scrap basket!  Mom would get me started and then go entertain her and then come back to walk me through the next step.  Didn't take me as long as I thought it would and I think the final result is just precious!  I don't know what I enjoyed more the quality time with my mom or learning to sew!  I would have to say it was probably the quality time with mom.

So I have had a busy week with mom and Aly and I am sad they are leaving tomorrow.  I don't know what I am going to do with myself without them.  I guess I will try my hand alone at another dress to see if I can do it on my own...Stayed tuned to see how that one turns out!

Easter 2011

Last year I found a pattern of a bunny that I thought would be great for an Easter shirt for my niece.  I painted the bunny on there (since I wasn't that comfortable with sewing yet).  It turned out really cute and when some of my co-workers saw it-they wanted one for their boy...so a boy bunny was born!

This year I did an updated version of the same pattern.  This one is an applique that I cut out and sewed. Instead of doing a face on the bunny I decided to put my niece's initial in the center.  After I posted it on Facebook-I got requests for a boy bunny...so that is my next project.  I will post those as soon as I am done.

Cupcake Burp Cloths

I saw this idea somewhere and have been dying to try it out.  A friend of mine wanted 3 burp cloths for a boy, so I got to package them like cupcakes!  I know that it doesn't really look like cupcakes, but I just think this is the cutest idea for a baby gift!  If you are interested in any of these...just email me.  Thelizzypad@gmail.com.

While I was shopping for fabric today in Hobby Lobby-a lady commented on me purchasing Mississippi State Fabric.  She said I must be a State Fan...I said, No.  I should have added I am a Southern Fan, but I didn't.  Anyway-I told her that I made some shirts last year and couldn't find the fabric and saw it today and decided to get it while I could.  We started talking and she asked me for my information so she could contact me about a shirt.  I did tell her I had a blog, but realized that I didn't have any recent pictures of Christmas shirts on it.  I decided I better update it!  Look for the tag Christmas and Turkey Shirts!
